I got my sonocaddie and loaded the courses pretty easily. One thing I noticed on courses back in Pinehurst area was that on some holes the readings were off by as much as 40 yards according to markers on the course. Also my belt buckle broke after just two rounds, never did work correctly. However overall pretty nice GPS
The display, in the sun, was so good that it appeared as if the backlight was on when in fact it wasn't.(2) I accidently left the unit on after playing a round. I proceeded to walk off the yardage and noticed that after about 75 yards it said 150 yards. I will be anxious to see when I play my home course that has course markers to compare the yardage. One note.when using the "Mark" feature, where you walk off the distance of a particular shot, make sure you have enough satellites to do this. This is why I chose the Sonocaddie. Two amazing things that struck me while using the Sonocaddie.(1) The first time I used it I kept noticing that the backlight was on after 10-15 minutes although I had it set to go off after 30 seconds. Also, users have complained that the Upro is difficult to see under bright sun.
All TV screens get washed out in sunlight. The unit is great for the obvious reason you get a GPS, but this one has the scorecard feature and game analysis where you can review your entire round for every shot. I liked the way the Upro has the "track anywhere" feature but doesn't have the scorecard or the analysis feature like the Sonocaddie. It was on for a total of 24 hours and it still had 1/4 battery charge left.Reviewers have stated that the Upro only lasts for maybe two rounds.
When you first turn the unit on let it acclimate for about 5 minutes before using it. But it wasn't the unit that made the error but me not waiting to acquire all the sats (eventually 9).Conclusion: As stated, I am looking forward to playing my home course with this unit and also want to map a course on my own. Then I realized the backlight WAS off. Another reason I chose the Sonocaddie. The only reason I did not give the review 5 stars was for it's lack of documentation. etc.
I was trying to descide between the Sonocaddie V300 and the Upro GPS. I had hit a great drive and wanted to mark the distance. I hadn't turned the unit on yet and when I did, it acquired three sats after about 30 seconds. When I got to my tee shot it registerd a 300 yard drive and I know it was about 250-260 yards. Takes a little figuring on your part. The unit itself seemed to perform like it should. This unit will record it for you.I only wish that there was a mounting unit for push carts. I think this is because with the Upro, you are watching a true video screen and not an animation.
I know they make one and it attaches to the handle of push carts, but users have complained that the unit moves too much.Great product. The manual does NOT clearly explain how to map a course from scratch. I played a 9 hole course and the yardage seemed to be right on, although there is no way to verify this. If you like to analize your game you don't have to jot down every shot, fairway, bunker, saves, putts.
Automatically progresses to next hole once I put in my score. I have now used this for six rounds. Very accurate when I measure it against yardage markers. Easily inputs new marks - such as a newly remodeled lay up area and the tree I always hit. Very intuitive. The analysis is very informative when you use the "pro" scorecard. This one is a winner.
The first two holes on my home course were fantastic - the display was outstanding and the yardages correct. From what I had read that pretty much was to be expected - I have not found a review stating that a revised mapping was received for any course. Then - the next 3 holes were reversed and yardages on the rest of the nine suffered from the satelite photo misinterpretation.I turned it off and after completing my round returned it to Amazon. I spoke with customer service (they were quite available and friendly) who said they would send me materials to request a remapping - 5 days later and nothing has come. Unfortunately my 1/2 day use of my $29.95 membership will probably not be refunded - still waiting.Recommendation - save all your materials so a return is possible. Register and take the free courses for a trial.
Downloads are quick, the screen is highly visible and it holds a charge for 4-5 18 hole rounds. Easy to add or correct location of hazards, etc. Fun, easy to use unit. My only beef is that you have to manually change holes each hole to get the right map. Dick's Sporting Goods retail stores reduced prices to $250 about 5/15. I wanted mine in a hurry due to an upcoming trip so I went to Dick's and was surprised with a $100 discount. It really isn't a big deal, but it seems odd for a unit that marks your position on the course not to know what hole you are playing. Still gets four stars at a great price point.
